I thought this documentary was quite good—rather disturbing and a bit distressing. My initial reaction to Donald Trump running for U.S. President was; 1) who would vote him and 2) can you buy the U.S. Presidency? This DVD offers several explanations. I don’t know anyone who voted for Trump (I certainly did not) and this DVD starts off with a NY artist who voted for him—he gets all his news and information from the internet (seriously?) The DVD has three main points starting with LIES. Trump based a large portion of his campaign on lies (or false / wrong information). They use the Breitbart website as an example (I never heard of it) and interview a man who intentionally writes false news to post on the internet. Point two is COVER-UP, the DVD introduces Robert Mercer a computer analyst and Hedge Fund Manager who raised money for the Trump campaign. Also, covers political fundraising and special interest financing which has changed substantially over the years. Point three is MANIPULATION of money, people and data. They cover a company that specializes in psychometrics and the use of computer data to evaluate behavioral marketing—particularly Facebook. Many people use Facebook as their main source of information/news (seriously?) The DVD covers ‘dark posts’ on Facebook to feed particular information and they talk about how social media was used for behavioral micro marketing. Politics have changed much over the years and information and technology has also changed significantly over the years. Can we control or even influence the outcomes of those changes to our democratic system or will it all be hashed out by some sort of Facebook/social media manipulation. In two years we may be able to look back at the Trump presidency to learn some lessons.
