If you are a fan of plays-into-films (or even a Dogma 95 fan) then you will appreciate the minimalistic approach to set & effects with a focus strictly on the dialogue & actions between 2 characters over the course of a day. This movie was very good, but it needs your full attention. The tension of the plot is palpable, even if the casting seemed wanting (it's hard to imagine tall, model-like Saffron Burrows being even remotely interested in Peter Mullan's Jean, however admirable his performance). Still, it is a great snapshot of the social/class structure of the late Victorian period poignantly crafted.
