the Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software

A really cool book. I feel as if I understand my computer all the way from the bottom up, from the physics underlying how circuits work (testable using a breadboard) all the way to how we assemble a real operating system and coordinate the various parts of a computer. You can tell that the author really digs the practical side of computers, and some of the more high-level theory is not as rigorously explained (such as Turing machines), although quite frankly it probably doesn't need to be. Will definitely be rereading this book again, both for its nice presentation and to understand it better the second time through.
