I'm not favorably inclined toward most 1940's film noir, a little too hyperbolic, but this film is a counter-example and much better than I anticipated. Based on a true story. Jimmy Stewart plays a newspaper reporter, at first reluctant, then, gaining conviction, becoming hell-bent on proving a convicted murderer residing in prison is actually innocent of the crime. Excellent script, superb cinematography, including archival news-reel footage spliced seamlessly into the production footage. Of note, 1940's high tech gadgets play a role in the solution to this puzzle. The 1940's version of a fax machine is critical to the film's finale'. Recommended.
