Follow the sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, on their journey from childhood to adulthood. Under the guidance of their mother Marmee, they navigate what it means to be a young woman: from gender roles to sibling rivalry, first love, loss, and marriage. Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, this story is as relevant and engaging today as it was on its original publication in 1868.

I loved this version of Little Women. It was so much more than I expected. Very true to the essence of the book and obviously well researched for authenticity. All the actors were well-suited to their roles. I particularly liked Emily Watson as Marmee.

The music / soundtrack for this three part miniseries was so annoying. The composition was dreadful and the worst violin playing I have ever heard. I was almost unable to watch it due to the grating sound of the music!

GREAT 2017 BBC television historical period drama adaptation of the 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott.
I've now seen several versions of Little Women and this rates up there with the best. It is set in the American Civil War period, but this BBC production was filmed in beautiful Ireland.
All the character performances (which also cover a LOT of ground) are excellent and this 3 hour long episodes version of Little Women is a fine watch.

If you like the book you should enjoy this depiction, as it follows the novel quite closely. I'm surprised at some of the negative comments - I thought the cinematography was amazing, and that the actors did a great job of depicting the subtle nuances of their characters in the short time available. Realistically, Little Women is not a book that has transcended time well in terms of feeling current today, but that need not take away from the pleasure of watching it.

I thought there was a lot of over-acting going on. The production also seemed a bit low budget in some of the scenes.

Emily Watson very good as the mother. This moves quite slow. Hard to get into it until about halfway through the second episode. We finally got into it and went to put the second disc in, only to find there are only 3 episodes (all on one disc). The ending was THAT abrupt! We felt unsatisfied after all the patience we had used to get thru the first half.

Only made it through the first hour, not a good series, acting was terrible. Stick to the original Little Women if you want to see it.

A half star each for Emily Watson, Michael Gambon, and the wonderful Angela Lansbury bringing something good into this disappointing miniseries. I thought it was dreadful otherwise.
