Good movie- solid directing, acting, and story ( based on a true event ).

Excellent. true story. Kevin Spacey was playing Getty when he was cut from filming due to sexual harassment of boys over the years. Christopher Plummer replaced him in all the scenes. I am not a Plummer fan after what he said about his role in Sound of Music. After i viewed the movie I went to Wikipedia to find out what happened to kidnapped grandson. Sad ending. to a life.

Too long, too slow moving, and the ending was complete bollocks.

We found this to an excellent movie to watch. I wondered how Getty became so rich. A bit easier if you do not pay taxes. Some may find it a bit boring because there is a need to pay close attention in order to understand Getty and enjoy the movie as much as we did. Defiantly worth the time. I was a bit surprised by the two or three low scores, however most liked and gave good scores and you will too if you pay attention to the movie.

Based on a true event. This movie is to slow. Christopher Plummer is ok as Getty,Sr. Gail Harris (the mom) is so annoying. Don’t bother watching this movie unless it’s storming outside & your completely borded!

Decent movie for Walberg. Plummer was too old for this film.

I remember the kidnapping and news articles when young Getty was kidnapped. This movie is slow moving, boring. Michelle Williams does not convey a sense of urgency in getting her son back, rather she seems to direct all her anger at her father-in-law. In fact, most of the movie centers on the relationship between daughter-in-law and son-in-law. I turned it off, half way through.

Slow moving and I’m not certain how historically accurate it is. OK for one viewing, but I won’t be watching it again.

Christopher Plummer is outstanding - the Oscar nomination was well deserved. Michele Williams and Mark Walhberg are perfect. And kudos to French actor Romain Duris for his portrayal of kidnapper/guard Cinquanta - pitch perfect and in Italian and English! An absorbing film about this famous kidnapping. Beautifully shot and directed. Highly recommend.

Compared to available archive of the kidnapping case on the web, the film seemed to be faithful on the flow of events with negligible deviations for cinematic drama. FX has just finished airing the series, per wiki: Trust (with Donald Sutherland and Hilary Swank) is an American anthology drama television series created by Simon Beaufoy that premiered on March 25, 2018 on FX. The 10-episode first season, written by Beaufoy and directed by Danny Boyle and others, is set in 1973 and recounts the abduction of John Paul Getty III, then-heir to Getty Oil, while he was in Italy.

Notes:
J. (Jean) Paul Getty: December 15, 1892 - June 6, 1976
John Paul Getty III: November 4, 1956 - February 5, 2011
Abigail "Gail" Harris: ??? -

There are many outstanding quotes from J. Paul Getty.. too bad the film was unable to write a few of them in the script. These from the movie is just okay in comparison:

You make deals. You buy people.
-That's right. Whether it's an oil well in the desert or a human life, it's all the same. We have to show we are willing to walk away.
I can't walk away. You can walk away, because you have nothing else

All I know about oil is regular or premium.

My grandpa was the one who brought the oil out of the Saudi desert. Everybody knew it was there. They just thought it couldnt be done. But Grandpa found a way. He made a deal with the Bedouin tribes. But there was so much oil, there was no ship big enough to carry it all. So, my grandfather invented one. He called it the supertanker.
