GOOD 1987 8th release by talented English synth pop/electronic music band.
The 14 cuts cover a lot of ground - some more interesting/enjoyable than others.
This is quite a good album, which could have been great had it not been marred by some OK songs. The first two songs are terrific, as is the sixth ('Behind the wheel') and ninth ('nothing'). The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th are so-so, whilst the last and two of the bonus tracks are rather poor. The words to the song 'Nothing' could stand alone as a Buddhist poem.
never let me down .... they never did .....
If you were a fan of guitar-based music in the 80s then it was easy to dismiss Depeche Mode as mopey, foppish synth-poppers. Surprisingly, they are still together and while they haven't been exactly relevant for a while, their influence is durable. This sixth album is one of their best loved and something of a bridge from their more brooding synth-pop days to the black-clad arena rockers of "Violator." Includes 4 bonus tracks.
