This sure ain't no 'God Willin...',so when I listened to this I was kinda taken aback. But good artists broaden their musical scope and this sure does, but his soft vocals sometimes get lost in all the sonicscape. It reminds me of Pink Floyd's 'Dark side of the moon' and 'Wish you were',with some of the arrangements, which is good and bad.Good if it's a timeless song, bad if your just navel gazing. But all that aside is it a good release? If you like this artist give it a whirl and you decide,me, I'm on the fence.
I'm a big fan of Ray but I must say that I'm not a big fan of the atmospheric style/arrangement that he's been drawn to on this album and the last (Supernova) His wispy vocals tend to get lost in the mix and he becomes hard to understand. I've always loved his lyrics so I'm more in favor of his more straightforward songwriting... but three cheers for artists trying new things and pushing their boundaries (Fav: Hey, No Pressure)
