The Churmen exposes the Mathews 23's of the denominational Christian Church. Mathew 23, the first 33 versus is Christ's criticism of the denominational clergy of his day. The clergy as portrayed in this series needed a good reading of Mathew 23. The "do as I say & not not as I do" syndrome is exposed. Granted, there are good clergy around but only a few in this series. It will be upsetting to some who think clergy can do no wrong. On the other hand, it is very critical. Watch The Church with an open mind would be my suggestion & form your own opinion.

French TV series, with English under-titling, of a modern day seminary. Issues are current and include illegal immigrants from Africa, homosexuality, Vatican-China differences over who should appoint local bishops, drug-spiked drinks, etc. It is nice to see daily life in Paris and some French villages. The story is very dramatic. The characters are a stereotypical bunch, chosen to add an interesting variety of people - a homosexual black, a left-wing priest, a right-wing priest, a proud bishop, conniving officials in the Vatican, a seminarian from the country, one from a weathly Parisian family, one who had been imprisoned for murder, a left-wing people's organizer, etc. These characters are all cardboard-thin personalities. Still the plotting is well-done, issues are presented fairly, religion is treated respectfully, although not in any depth, as social issues are the focus. I look forward to Seasons 2 and 3.
