Yes, one of THE best SF acid-rock bands. Saw them here in Seattle at Eagle's Ballroom. Pretty sure Seattle's great acid folk rock The Magic Fern was also on the bill.
What a terrific first album. No doubt it helped that it wasn't made until 1968. Quicksilver seemed a little ahead of the other SF bands instrumentally.
The cut Gold and Silver on this album really represents the essence of SF instrumental acid rock (for me) - gets a bit "outside" like a jazz group.
"Quicksilver Messenger Service" was one of the best bands from the San Francisco rock ballrooms of the Fillmore and the Avalon. This music explodes off the grooves. They are on so many of the ballroom posters. Their fans just couldn't get enough of them. See why here with their first album.
