It's 1963, a time in the United States when life was simple, straightforward and the lines between the sexes and sex roles were crisply drawn and severely delineated. Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist find themselves thrown together when they are hired to tend sheep in the remote area of Brokeback Mountain, Wyoming. Because of the job, the two are forced to spend many hours together alone in the wild. Ennis and Jack are inexorably drawn to each other through their proximity, loneliness and through a shared lack of tenderness and emotion in their lives and are emotionally, physically and psychically bonded to each other almost from the start.

Fifteen years later and this film still delivers. In many ways, I was even more impressed this time than when I saw it in 2006. One commenter mentioned sound issues which might actually, in some cases, be a diction or projection problem? I dunno; but before I read that comment I was planning to say this is a perfect film. Script, acting, cinematography, casting, ....just a beautifully made, profoundly moving film. My guess is it will still be good when I watch it again in 2030.

Amazing film with the WORST sound ever. I've tried to hear the dialogue three times. Finally got an idea and turned on captions!
Yike. Great stuff that are "so natural" are often mumbled performances.
Surely someone in technology can eliminate the need to, either crank the sound, or get sound bars!

Brokeback Mountain is a modern classic that everyone deserves to watch. This film features some of the best actors in the industry, including Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Anne Hathaway, and highlights the range of their talent. The settings in this film are also perfect, ranging from the idyllic mountains to the sleepy country towns, creating a perfect backdrop to an intense narrative. The flow of the story was natural, following this doomed relationship that, despite all the odds, you just want to work out. The colour palette of this movie was incredibly pretty, very soft and pastel, despite a lot of tough subject matter. This movie honestly broke my heart but there was something satisfying about how emotional it is, almost cathartic. I would recommend this movie to every single person in the world as I think everyone should watch this masterpiece at some point in their life. 5/5

This movie shows the ups and downs of a man being with a man in 1960’s Wyoming. Although both men are married to women, they keep up their emotional and physical affair that takes place over the course of 20 years. Due to the social and political climate and the fact that they are both married, they are unable to reveal their true selves or come to recognize who they are in reality. This film is emotional and heart-breaking while representing those that had no positive representation back in those times. I would rate this movie 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to those in the mood to laugh, smile, and cry.

This movie made in 2005. It led the topic through all of these years. It is not simply about queers in a way. It is about a human relationship. It is a Forbidden Love and Tragedy story like Romeo and Juliet. A love could be banded by races, by regions, by religions, or by genders etc. unfortunately, which is a human tragety.
It is filmed beautifully. It walks through mountains, flocks of sheep, running riveres, simple lives in a remote area and a deep unreachable love.
It is a pioneer of its kind and it has been leading through to the main stream after years passing by.

I visited Calgary and the place near it called Kananaski this summer, knowing most of this film was shot in that area. My suggestion is that listen to the soundtrack of Brokeback Mountain when you drive on the road. The beautiful sadness of music and scenery are just breathtaking.

This forbidden love story made me cry. Love is so hard to find and even harder to keep.

Brokeback Mountain is not a great love story. It is also way too long at 2 hours and 14 minutes.

This cinematic masterpiece was robbed of a best picture Oscar the year it came out. It is an uncommon love story between two masculine ranch/rodeo hands that unfolds atop a beautiful mountain, Brokeback Mountain, and inside a small two-person tent during a seasonal sheep herding gig in an otherwise bleak, cruel and violent landscape.

"A classic" doesn't even come close to describing Brokeback Mountain. Words don't even come to my mouth when I think about writing about this film. What has become to be one of my all time favorite films, is one of the most romantic stories that I have seen.

The story of two ranch hands working together over a summer herding sheep on Brokeback mountain becomes a story of friendship, forbidden love, and tragedy. Fall in love with them and fall in love with Brokeback mountain.

This movie was more about 2 people learning about themselves and letting themselves love and be loved. The place and time of the incidents are unfortunate considering how unaccepting society was (is) in that setting. They broke the norms they were raised to believe for just a moment and were miserable otherwise when separated. Beautiful scenery and acting was spot on. Gay, straight, bi, thai...we're still all individuals and entitled to happiness.

[ Ennis sets Jack "straight" about what happened between them.]

Ennis Del Mar: It's a one shot thing we got going on here.

Jack Twist: It's nobody's business but ours.

Ennis: You know I ain't queer.

Jack: Me neither.
