I really can't add anything unique to sixty years worth of praises sung to the two different versions of Glenn Gould's "Goldberg Variations." It's like trying to say something new about the Grand Canyon, Saturn's rings or wheels. The greatness inherent in such things is ineffable and really require a person to just be quiet and listen. If you haven't heard these recordings before, by all means, listen because they will change you. The extraneous sounds you hear in the background (creaking chair, humming, etc.) are all part of the experience. Upon hearing these things one is reminded that a mere human is performing this music, which adds to the splendor.
